German Shepherd - Proper Spelling

I don’t know about you, but I like to spell words correctly. Unfortunately, things haven’t always been so easy for me. I had a hard time spelling growing up, and often missed many more words than I wanted to on my spelling tests. There’s always been something frustrating for me when it comes to spelling. I have a pretty good memory when it comes to other things, but I find it hard to remember the right spelling of so many words that aren’t spelled the way they should be pronounced. All of those silent letters really throw me off!

I could go on for hours about some of the words that always seem to get me, but there’s one that took me by surprise. I’ve been an owner of German Shepherd dogs for many years now, and I can tell you that they’re my favorite breed. They’re wonderful dogs, but for whatever reason, I went many years without spelling them right!

I had always thought it was German Shepard for some reason. This was obviously wrong, even though it sounds like it should be pronounced that way. The silent h in the word really throws me off.

Anyway, here’s a little trick you can use that I taught myself. Since connecting these two things, I’ve never misspelled the word again. German Shepherds were used to herd sheep in Germany in the late 1800s. Note the herd at the end of the word. The “shep” part (instead of sheep) is another story, but I’m confident you can get that part right. I hope this helps you!
